Supporting the Work of Love: Tyrone and the Black Joy Program

When Tyrone, founder of Townsend Counseling Services, reflects on the impact of the Black Joy Program, one theme stands out: access. For many of the couples he serves, the opportunity to engage in counseling is often limited by financial barriers. Through this program, that barrier was lifted.

The Black Joy Program provided scholarships that allowed couples to enter therapy without the added stress of cost. This created space for them to fully focus on their relationships, fostering a sense of safety and openness that is essential for meaningful progress. For many, it was the first time they were able to prioritize healing their partnership without distraction.

Tyrone shared that this support extended beyond his clients. As a Black business owner, participation in the program affirmed that his work is recognized, valued, and supported by his community. That sense of affirmation continues to fuel his commitment to providing high quality care.

In addition, access to further training and certification opportunities strengthened Tyrone’s ability to serve his clients. These resources enhanced both the depth and quality of care he provides, creating a more impactful therapeutic experience for the couples he works with.

At its core, Tyrone believes that strong, healthy relationships are foundational to thriving families and communities. Through the Black Joy Program, he has been able to support that foundation in tangible and lasting ways.
