Care That Reflects the Community: Dr. Jurdene and the Black Joy Program
When Dr. Jurdene launched her practice, Sage & Summit Therapy, in 2025, she was focused on creating a space where Black and BIPOC clients could receive culturally competent mental health care. Through participation in the Black Joy Program, that vision has begun to grow in meaningful ways.
As a new practice owner, Dr. Jurdene shared that the program has helped bring new clients to her young business while allowing her to refine her focus on serving communities that are often underserved in traditional mental health spaces.
Many of her clients have expressed that previous experiences with therapists did not always include the level of cultural understanding they desired. Working with a therapist who shares cultural context and lived experiences has made a difference in how supported they feel during their healing journeys.
Dr. Jurdene noted that some of her current clients may not have considered accessing therapy at all without the support of the Black Joy Program. By lowering barriers and creating intentional pathways to care, the program has helped connect individuals with resources that support their mental health and wellbeing.
Because of this opportunity, Dr. Jurdene continues to invest in professional development that strengthens her ability to serve Black and BIPOC communities. She remains committed to expanding access to culturally responsive care and supporting clients who are seeking spaces where they feel understood and affirmed.
Programs like Black Joy not only support therapists like Dr. Jurdene as they grow their practices. They also help ensure that more members of the community can access the care they deserve.
