For Adan and Maria Lopez, Grandview Roofing LLC is not just a business, but something they’re building together as a family.
As co-founders of Grandview Roofing, the Lopez family understands that growing a business takes teamwork, commitment, and a willingness to keep learning. Through Commerce Uplift Cohort 3, Maria had the opportunity to strengthen their business knowledge and explore new strategies for growth, with the added experience of having their 14-year-old daughter, Natasha, participate in the program alongside her.
Over 12 weeks, Maria connected with entrepreneurs at different stages of their journeys while learning practical tools for business planning, marketing, financial management, and more. She rated her experience a five out of five, noting how much she learned throughout the program.
Building a Stronger Foundation
One of the most valuable parts of Commerce Uplift was gaining a deeper understanding of Grandview Roofing and the opportunities ahead.
The program helped Maria build confidence in key areas of business ownership, from understanding the company's business model and developing a business plan to identifying customers and making strategic decisions. She also strengthened her confidence in pricing, business finances, accessing capital, and communicating the business's value.
With that knowledge, Maria is ready to put new ideas into practice. One of her next steps is launching a returning-client service plan, creating a more intentional approach to maintaining customer relationships and supporting continued growth.
Looking ahead, the family is focused on extending their business knowledge and building on what they've learned.
Growing Together as a Family
For Maria, the value of Commerce Uplift extended beyond business education. The experience also gave her an opportunity to reflect on her personal and professional journey and better understand where she is and where she wants to go.
She described the program as an opportunity that helped her understand not only her business, but also her own growth. That kind of reflection can be especially meaningful when entrepreneurship is part of a larger family journey.
Having Natasha participate alongside her added another dimension to the experience. Learning in a space with entrepreneurs from different industries and stages of business development offered an opportunity to see firsthand the questions, decisions, and continued learning that come with building a business.
Maria also appreciated the mix of businesses represented in the cohort. She valued the opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn from one another, regardless of where they were in their journeys. That spirit of shared learning is an important part of Commerce Uplift, where participants can exchange perspectives, build connections, and discover new ways to approach business challenges.
Looking Ahead
As Adan and Maria continue building Grandview Roofing, the lessons from Commerce Uplift provide a foundation for their next chapter. From strengthening customer relationships to making more intentional business decisions, they're carrying forward new knowledge and a clearer perspective on growth.
Their experience is a reminder that building a business is an ongoing process. It takes a willingness to learn, adapt, and invest in the future, and that process can be even more meaningful when it's part of a shared family vision.
We're grateful to Maria and the Lopez family for being part of Commerce Uplift Cohort 3 and look forward to seeing what's next for Grandview Roofing.
